    ALEXANDRE FELICIANO

    Alexandre Feliciano

Salvador (BA), 1973 l Lives and works in Salvador (BA), Brazil.

Baiano, humorous, intelligent and restless. This is Alexandre Feliciano, who since the early years of age surprised the family by making the meeting between paper and pencil an incredible universe of characters and stories. Graduated in fine arts, at the School of Fine Arts, Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). He is a visual artist and serigrapher, makes watercolor paintings, acrylic on canvas, embossed sculpture. The art of moving to paper the purest poetry in the form of drawings, has always been present throughout the artist's life. Over time, he also began to act as an art teacher in some of the largest private schools in the city of Salvador.

Restless, he passed through the most diverse styles using mixed techniques, such as screen printing and painting. He held exhibitions, both collectively and individually, in spaces such as shopping malls, at Bahia Marina, at Salvador Airport, in the City Council, among others. He created a book of visual poems for children in partnership with a friend. He signed the interior design  of The Nank Restaurant, in the Rio Vermelho neighborhood. And with his art he has stood out as one of the most brilliant artists of the new generation in Bahia.

In a work accident he dropped some coffee while painting a watercolor and realized that when the paper absorbed the liquid, a unique color and a different texture formed. He then adopted coffee as an instrument of art in his drawings. In the book of visual poetry for children he did the same experiment with chocolate, which worked very well and further enriched the work.

In his art we notice the constant presence of a certain poetic disformity with the presence of ladies and elegants, as Alexander usually calls his female and male characters, respectively. Another constant presence in the works of Alexandre Feliciano are the already famous lamps, which always represent the light and hope of the prevalence of poetry over reality. Feliciano's steps lead to a more beautiful life to see, where it will always be possible to find fantasy and delicacy even in the most everyday landscapes.

    INTERVIEW

How did you get into the art world?
Ever since I was a kid, I've always enjoyed drawing and painting. At the Faculty of Fine Arts, I expanded my knowledge and improved my technique. By that time, I was already sure that art would be my life partner.

What do you understand as Fine Arts?
It is the way to expose our feelings and our view of the world through a very particular and individual way and still touch so many other people.

How do you define your Art?
It is a figurative, bairrist and playful art, where I expose my vision of the Bahian culture and the fantasies of the world.

What are your greatest references in the world of the Arts?
Carybé, Pierre Verger, Pablo Picasso, Monet, Tarsila do Amaral.
What are the main themes used in your works? And why is that?
I explore our Bahian culture a lot. It is a very rich theme, with many stories and curiosities.

In addition, I love to portray both everyday scenes and scenes of our imaginary, dreams and desires.

What are the main techniques used in your work? And which ones do you like to use the most?
Today I dedicate myself a lot to watercolor with coffee. It is a very natural process where tones and themes have found a perfect harmony. But I keep using acrylic on canvas, screen printing and embossed sculpture.

What do you seek to pass through your works to the viewer?
I hope that somehow he identifies with the work and is touched by it. May the work resonate in each one of joy, harmony, beauty, simplicity, reflection and hope.

What are the best and greatest experiences in your artistic career?
Being an arts teacher of a 10-15 year old galleon that boils with excitement brings me a restlessness, renews my energies, forces me to think outside the box and is an amazing experience that I live daily. In addition, it may seem simplistic, but there is no better time than to witness a customer's smile and gratitude at the time of delivery of a work. It's the fuel to move on.

In your work is there a kind of protest beyond what is obviously seen? If so, which one? If not, is there a theme that awakens your willingness to protest?
Today my works doesn´t  have any kind of protest. But the topics I could explore would be about religious intolerance and racism.

Are you interested in doing a traveling exhibition? If so, how do you imagine this exhibition? Would you know what topic you would like to address?
I´d love  to, yes! The theme would be Bahia and the magic of hope.

Where do you want to get to as a Visual Artist?
I am very happy in art, but I wish to be recognized and respected for my work. So that this gives me financial independence, so that I can realize the dream of simply "living from my art".
